Puma Blue
Puma Blue is the alias of artist, producer & poet Jacob Allen. Originally finding recognition in the South London music scene for his falsetto vocal and dark, lo-fi textures, Puma Blue's music is noted for its blend of sensuality, intimate fragility and haunting, nocturnal ambience.
Performing with a band of close friends, his live shows blend jazz and dub-influenced improvisation with a vocal energy often likened to Jeff Buckley. After early acclaim from demos, Puma Blue gained wider attention with EPs Swum Baby (2017) & Blood Loss (2018). His debut album In Praise Of Shadows was released in 2021, followed by the acclaimed concert film ‘A Late Night Special’.
His second album, Holy Waters, a band-focused meditation on love and grief, was released in 2023, followed by a bout of touring which took Jacob and the band to Asia and Mexico as well as Europe and North America.
In 2025, sister-albums, antichamber, and extchamber, were announced mere hours before release. The twin albums explored a more ambient, stripped-back sound, the latter built entirely from obscure, minimalist arrangements & field recordings.
Following this, Puma Blue released his fourth full-length album, Croak Dream, in 2026 - the culmination of a process that began with collaging tape loops from jam sessions and scraps of unfinished songs, resulting in a darker, punchier and boldly experimental record drawing heavily on Bristol trip-hop and 90s subculture.
Outside of his releases as Puma Blue, Jacob has produced and co-written for artists including Loyle Carner, Biig Piig, Lava La Rue and SALPA. His music has been featured on HBO’s ‘The Penguin’, Amazon Prime’s ‘Shelter’, directed by Harlen Coben, and in Steven Soderbergh’s 2024 thriller ‘Presence’.
Jacob currently resides in Atlanta, where he writes poetry, makes music under the more mysterious monikers Ruby Bliels and Shadow Carp, as well as creating short films and music videos.
