Jonny Greenwood Prom Announced

Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood will premiere his new work at the 2019 BBC Proms on September 10 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Horror Vacui is set to feature 68 acoustic string instruments and explores the characteristics of electronically created music, transferring them into the acoustic arena.

Horror Vacui will be premiered by virtuoso violinist Daniel Pioro and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Hugh Brunt. Jonny will join the distinguished ensemble on stage.

The Greenwood-curated evening will also feature Jonny’s Three Miniatures From Water - No. 3, as well as Minimalist master Steve Reich’s radiantly throbbing Pulse and Biber’s almost Chachian Passacaglia for solo violin.

Jonny’s Prom debut is set to celebrate the musician as an avant-garde composer whose work includes celebrated film soundtracks such as There Will Be Blood, Norwegian Wood and the Oscar-nominated Phantom Thread.
