Lost Horizons

Lost Horizons is a collaboration between Simon Raymonde, bassist of the seminal indie-pop trio Cocteau Twins and founder of British independent record label Bella Union, and Richie Thomas, drummer of post-rock quartet Dif Juz and former drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain. The pair first became collaborators and friends in the 1980s, when their bands shared the same record label, 4AD.

Lost Horizons released their debut record Ojala via Raymonde’s Bella Union in 2017. The record featured an array of guest artists from both Bella Union and beyond, including former Midlake frontman Tim Smith, Cameron Neal (Horse Theif), Marissa Nadler and Leila Moss of The Duke Spirit and Ghostpoet. The pair performed Ojala live at the South Bank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in September 2018 in a special one-time-only show alongside the record’s featured artists.

In Quiet Moments, the duo’s acclaimed second album was released via Bella Union in February 2021. The album features a stellar array of musical guests including John Grant, C Duncan, Marissa Nadler, Porridge Radio, Penelope Isles, Karen Peris (the innocence mission), Tim Smith (Midlake), Ren Harvieu and many more.

Remixes from David Holmes, Adrian Sherwood and Dan Carey will be released later in the year.

“Second album from super-duo contains multitudes… With the knowing retro-etherealism of Every Beat That Passed (featuring Swedish vocalist Kavi Kwai) or Cordelia’s new age tides controlled by John Grant, In Quiet Moments opens out its own space to wander, a many-moods piece for complicated times.” MOJO – 4 stars ****

“Lost Horizons return with a 16-song set that expands their palette considerably, including jazzier ventures with Ren Harvieu and soul singer Ural Thomas. Lest anyone forget about Raymonde’s past life as a Cocteau Twin, reverb-soaked collaborations with Kavi Kwai and KookiLou ensure there’s plenty of the old shimmer and spangle to savour, too.” Uncut

“Absolutely breathtaking in places, In Quiet Moments succeeds by collecting a universe of sounds and rhythms, mixing them with a diverse portfolio of collaborators”
Narc Magazine - 5/5

”In Quiet Moments is an improvisational grounding and a strong lyrical brief has allowed the impressive list of co-signs to feel more pertinent, and in that, more able to successfully explore thematic material, both sonically and lyrically…it’s an impressive, and in certain moments, captivating listen”
The Line of Best Fit - 7/10
